Although people all over are concerned about this crisis, it only affects people from certain areas. The most concerning two countries in the world who do not have access to clean water are Haiti and India.
The reason why a majority of the water sources in Haiti are contaminated, is because there is a very poor infrastructure in the Haitian families and they have no other option than to use the diseased water. Haiti is ranked #1 in one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. Here the water leads to waterborne illnesses, such as typhoid, cholera, and chronic diarrhea, which is the cause to more than half of the deaths in the country each year. One of the leading causes of childhood illness is from contaminated water. This has caused a very high infant death rate in Haiti being 57 deaths for every 1000 born. For every person on Haiti, 1 in 5 people do not have access to a clean toilet and more than 50% of the Haitians in the area do not have access to clean water at all.
In India, access to clean water is very severe. More than 163 million people lack access to safe water in this country. In India, there is more that 1 billion citizens making the second most populous country. About half of their population being 522 million people are forced to practice over defecation. This is when people do not have a decent sanitation or even a toilet so they are forced to use the bathroom in the outdoors such as an open fiend or even an ocean. More than 500 children that are younger than five get sick and die each day from diarrhea in India by itself. In 2050, the population of India is predicted to rise to 1.6 billion which leaves more and more people without the source of water.
